He panicked.
Dale saw the whites of the goblins' eyes; a bead of sweat dripped from his brow and just then...
a crackle of lightning struck the ground at his feet and a resounding crash of thunderous energy emanated from where he stood.
The lead goblin (and Schulden, who stood a mere 10 feet behind him) were blown away viciously and landed prone.
"Get 'em, boys!" the leader yelled as his crew descended upon the party.
Dale scurried across the street and into an alley.
As the goblins converged on the corner, the towering Schulden obscured their path.
Just as happy with another target, they sprung upon the Warforged hacking away at him as he flailed about in an attempt to buck the creatures off.
Despite their best attempts - all four goblin strikes hitting, including the lieutenant's - our metal man was not downed.
Delorix followed suit, slinging chaos bolts as she darted back behind Schulden while the wizard flung fire bolts at the assailants.
Schulden rose and with a mighty crash brought his hammer down on the lieutenant who was instantly turn to mush. Dale emerged from the darkness of the alley and clipped the throat of one of the underlings, who dropped like a bag of beans.
The Artificer and Wizard's bolts ricocheted between the two remaining lackeys who soon laid crisp and ashen on the cobblestone sidewalk.
Thanks to his familiar, Noog spotted the goblin leader making a break for it; he was immediately put to sleep by the wizard's magic and he flopped limp on the pavement.
The goblin awoke in a haze...
Around him were our heroes murmuring about information. His hands and feet were bound to a chair. Delorix approached.
"I'll make him talk," she grinned; cracking her knuckles and turning a dial on her shock gauntlets.
She gripped the goblin by the shoulders and squeezed. "Where's Krenko?!"
Within moments, the goblin lay still. Smoke and the scent of roasted flesh permeated the room.
The party stared at her, then the corpse, then her again.
"Whoops..." was all the young Vedalken could muster.
"I'll take care of it," Schulden exclaimed as he whisked the carcass - chair and all - up and away, throwing it out a window along with a peculiar chest the party had plundered from the building.
Regardless, their only remaining lead was Falish and so they set off to find her workshop.
Not long nor far away, Noog's familiar spotted a small sign in front of an inconspicuous door in an alley. They had found her shop.
A night's stay at a nearby inn and a brief conversation with a drunk granted them the following insight on local happenings: The empty gate represents the gateless; not all of Ravnica's people belong to a guild. In fact, most of them don't. The system serves the guilds, the rest of us might as well be fodder. Some of them... got tired of it.
The following day, the party set off for Falish's workshop and... knocked on the front door.
As the porthole opened, Dale immediately asked from Krenko. The porthole slammed shut and a woman appeared at the balcony wielding a scorchbringer.
"If you don't step off, I'll have you lot figure out what this is!"
The party reacted by dropping coin for an audience. Falish... thankfully, obliged.
Turns out Krenko owes Falish money. She agreed to help the party find him only if she gets what she's owed. The gang also agreed.
"Buy what you need and make peace with your deity, meet me here when your done," she tells them.
The nature of her connection to Krenko and Falden Mihrr elude the party. But they have little in the way of allies these days. Friends, it would seem, are hard to come by indeed.
